Missouri’s offense explodes, defense eventually finds its footing in season-opening win

Missouri defeated Missouri State 72-43 in Saturday’s season opener.

Tigers’ junior quarterback Drew Lock broke the school single-game passing touchdown record with seven (to Johnathan Johnson twice, J’Mon Moore, Jason Reese, Moore again, Albert Okwuegbunam and Dominic Collins, respectively) and the single-game passing yards record with 521. On the day, Lock finished 21 of 34.

The game was back and forth for entirety of the first half, with Missouri’s defense failing to stop Missouri State’s offensive attack. The Tigers led 48-35 at the intermission.

Damarea Crockett ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.

Missouri begins SEC play at 6 p.m. next Saturday when South Carolina comes to Columbia. The Gamecocks play N.C. State on Saturday.
