Atlanta officer fired; cash missing from dead man’s wallet
ATLANTA (AP) — An Atlanta police officer has been fired following an investigation into money missing from a dead man’s wallet.
News outlets report Officer Keisha Richburg was fired Monday. She was accused of taking about $500 from shooting victim Jamel Harris’ wallet.
Police Chief Erika Shields said an administrative investigation didn’t confirm whether Richburg took the money. She was fired for not properly accounting for the money per department’s policies.
Shields said once the administrative case is closed it’ll be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Harris was shot on June 19. Bystander Leilani Collier said she noticed the money after she opened his wallet to learn his name. She told officers and Harris’ wife about the cash.
Police allegedly told Harris’ wife there was no money.
