Trump rails against impeachment talk: ‘No crimes by me’
President Trump continued his claims Monday that special counsel Robert Mueller’s recently released report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election showed there was no collusion or obstruction on his part, which would sink any potential impeachment attempts.
“Only high crimes and misdemeanors can lead to impeachment,” Mr. Trump tweeted Monday. “There were no crimes by me (No Collusion, No Obstruction), so you can’t impeach. It was the Democrats that committed the crimes, not your Republican President! Tables are finally turning on the Witch Hunt!”
The Justice Department on Thursday released a redacted version of Mr. Mueller’s report, which concluded Mr. Trump’s team did not collude with Russia to win the 2016 election but that the president’s attempts to obstruct the investigation could be seen as problematic.
“If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state,” the report said. “Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment.”
Mrs. Pelosi said the Democratic Caucus will hold a conference call Monday to discuss whether to pursue impeachment of the president over what was found in the report.
