Three Ohio troopers suffer minor injuries in chase, crash in Bratenhal

BRATENHAL, Ohio - Three Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers suffered minor injuries in a Thursday afternoon chase that ended in a crash in Bratenhal.

The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Lakeshore Boulevard and Eddy Road, just off of Interstate 90.

The troopers suffered minor injuries. They chased the 2017 Nissan Armada along I-90 because it was reported as stolen and the SUV refused to stop, patrol spokesman Lt. Bradley Shaw said.

Troopers drove side-by-side on Lakeshore when the SUV rammed one of the cruisers, Shaw said.

The SUV driver was arrested and taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, Shaw said.

Both a state patrol SUV and a blue SUV sustained significant damage to their front ends.

Police shut down Eddy Road after the highway and Lakeshore Boulevard while troopers are investigating the crash.

Several Bratenahl police cruisers are at the scene, along with troopers.

It’s the third chase and crash involving troopers in the Cleveland area in five days.

Troopers on Wednesday chased a car on Detroit Avenue for driving recklessly. The chase reached speeds of up to 70-miles per hour and the driver eventually crashed into a building on Detroit and West 75th Street.

The driver ran off and a passenger suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Troopers on Saturday chased a car that ran a red light on the East Side of Cleveland. That chase ended in a crash on East 124th Street and St. Clair Avenue that killed driver Antonio Whitely, 30, the driver, and passenger Ashley Martin, 25. A 17-year-old boy was also hurt in the crash.
