RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say a 10-year-old and a teen tried to rob a group of pedestrians before fleeing on BMX-style bicycles.

The North Carolina State University Police issued a news release saying the children approached three pedestrians early Thursday along a sidewalk on the edge of campus.

Police say one of the boys displayed a knife and demanded money.

The boy with the knife was described as about 5′6″ and 14- or 15-years-old. The other was described as shorter than that and around age 10. Both were wearing shorts and fled on their bicycles.

Police described it as an attempted robbery and issued a campus-wide alert. They urged people to walk in groups, especially at night and report suspicious activity to police.
