Sugaray Rayford: Soulful blues at The Kate Sunday
With a gritty voice and a kicking band, soulful blues singer Sugaray Rayford and band will perform with his eight-piece band in Old Saybrook at the Katharine Hepburn Performing Arts Center Sunday, April 14.
Texas-born and a former Marine, Rayford is an imposing performer, too, at at hefty 6 feet 5 inches tall. His old-school vocal style echoes Muddy Waters and Teddy Pendergrass. In the United Kingdom recently, British music magazine Blues & Soul called Rayford’s music “stonking, funking, soulful blues.”
“Somebody Save Me,” his latest album, was released by Forty Below Records on March 1.
