MLC women earn All-UMAC honors
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Martin Luther College women’s soccer player Jenna Maurer was named First Team All-UMAC by the conference in a release on Wednesday. Teammates Alyssa Maertz and Emily Muir were each named Second Team All-UMAC, while Sarah Kell earned honorable mention.
Maurer finished the season as the team’s leader in goals (13) and points (29), and also recorded the game-winning goal in all four of the Knights’ wins (including three in conference play).
Maurer received Second Team All-UMAC honors in each of her first three season, finished her career third in program history with 49 goals and tied for third with 112 career points.
Maertz earned all-conference honors for the fourth time in her career. She was named First Team All-UMAC in 2014 and received honorable mention in 2013 and 2015. In her senior season, Maertz recorded one goal, and was also a key component to the team’s defense in the middle of the field.
Muir earned second-team honors after moving to defense this season. The junior started the season as an outside back, but moved to the middle due to injury early in the season and thrived there, helping the Knights with her physical play and aggressiveness to snuff out opposing attacks.
Kell, a three-year starter as a center back, provided the steady play that allowed Muir to attack, helping the Knights to a 1.73 goals against average and three shutouts in conference play.
Junior Emily Unke was named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplifies sportsmanship throughout the season.
