BLACKFOOT — The Eastern Idaho State Fair will feature some big names this year: Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Joan Jett.
EISF officials announced the nighttime grandstand entertainment lineup for the fair, which will take place Sept. 1-9 in Blackfoot, on Wednesday. They say the theme this year is “Bigger is Better,” and they appear to mean it.
They’ve planned two nights of comedy as part of a package deal that starts at $44. Jeff Foxworthy will be performing the first night, Sept. 1.
“Foxworthy is one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country. Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes well beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature,” according to a news release. “Jeff’s wildly successful career includes hosting game shows, writing several books, and beginning his own company – Foxworthy Outdoors.”
Bill Engvall, who has received mulitple accolades and awards, including the American Comedy Award for “Best Male Stand-up Comedian” in 1992, will perform on Sept. 7. He has hosted numerous TV shows and appeared in several films, according to his website.
“In addition to a hugely successful career in stand up comedy, Engvall was a part of the successful Blue Collar Comedy concert films, which sold over nine million units and received a Grammy nomination,” the news release states.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are also scheduled to perform at the fair this year. Their concert will take place on Sept. 8, and tickets start at $29.
Fair officials say Jett heads her own independent label, Blackheart Records.
“As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, with whom she has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she’s had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics ‘Bad Reputation,’ ‘I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,’ ‘I Hate Myself For Loving You,’ and ‘Crimson and Clover,’” according to the news release.
This year’s fair will also include several other popular events: the Bull Riding Championships on Sept. 2; Western Tractor Pull Nationals on Sept. 3; the Gem State Classic Pro Rodeo on Sept. 4-5; Monster Truck Insanity on Sept. 6; and September Slam Demolition Derby on Sept. 9.
Fair officials say tickets will go on sale to the general public on June 2, and can be purchased online at www.funatthefair.com or www.facebook.com/funatthefair, by phone at 208-785-2480, ext. 7, or in person at Vickers Western Stores in Idaho Falls and Pocatello.
