Man wounded in jewelry store heist indicted on 2 felonies
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A robbery suspect faces two felony counts in an attempted jewelry store heist that ended with the owner and an off-duty St. Louis police officer shooting and wounding him.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 28-year-old Deven Strauther was indicted Thursday on charges of attempted interfering with commerce by threats of violence and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Strauther was shot twice in the abdomen in May. Prosecutors say he fired back before fleeing with another man in a stolen car. He arrived at a hospital 30 minutes later in clothes matching those worn by the robber.
Charging documents say his DNA matched blood found in the car and the car’s hard drive showed that it was present at the time of the robbery.
