Coyotes trapped after boy gets bitten at Orange County park

October 14, 2016

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Wildlife officials have trapped and euthanized four coyotes after a 6-year-old boy was bitten while playing at an Orange County park.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife Capt. Rebecca Hartman said Thursday it was difficult to know if one of the captured coyotes was responsible for the attack because there was little forensic evidence on the child’s clothing.

The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/2dfZzwa ) says the boy was playing at a park in Irvine on Sunday when a coyote bit him on the arm and tried to drag him away.

The boy’s father was able to scare the coyote away. The boy was treated for bites as well as cuts and scrapes.

Authorities say Irvine is “a hot spot” for coyotes and urged people not to feed them.
