City golf tourney postponed

Heavy rains overnight forced the postponement of Friday’s first round of the La Porte City Golf Tournament at Beechwood. Match play will resume this morning.

La Porte volleyball match moved

La Porte’s freshman, JV and varsity volleyball matches Thursday at Mishawaka will be played at John Young Middle School, 1801 N. Main Street, instead of the high school. Game time remains 5 p.m. CDT.

Times for La Porte soccer matches switched

La Porte’s boys and girls soccer matches with Mishawaka will start with the varsity followed by a half of JV play. The Aug. 25 girls varsity match will begin at 10 a.m. CDT and the Sept. 22 boys varsity match will begin at 11 a.m. CDT.

La Porte/New Prairie football tickets on sale

Tickets for the Aug. 17 La Porte football game at New Prairie are on sale for $3 at both high school athletic departments. Admission price is $5 on game night. No season passes from either school will be permitted for this game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Slicers’ girls golf schedule changes

La Porte’s girls golf match versus Michigan City and Chesterton scheduled for Thursday will now be played on Wednesday at Beechwood Golf Course in La Porte. Also, the Slicers’ contest against Crown Point and Lake Central on Aug. 21 will now be played at White Hawk in Crown Point and not at Beechwood.

Slicers/Lakers’ boys tennis schedule change

La Porte’s boys tennis home match versus La Lumiere scheduled for Sept. 19 will now be played on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the LeRoy Courts. The 1968 Slicer state champions will be honored that evening.

La Porte Travel Soccer sign-ups

Registration is still open for La Porte Travel Soccer. They have a few openings for U10, U12 and U14 players for the fall season. U10 born between 8-1-08 and 7-31-10. U12 born between 8-1-06 and 7-31-08. U14 born between 8-1-04 and 7-31-06. Games begin August 25. Sign up online at LaPorteSoccer.org, or call 219-363-1447.

South Central adds football game

South Central will play its Week 4 football game Saturday, Sept. 8, at North Knox. A Class 2A school located in Bicknell in southwestern Indiana, North Knox replaces Bishop Noll on the South Central schedule after Noll cancelled its varsity season due to a lack of players. The game will be played on Saturday due to the four-hour travel time and will kick off at 5 p.m.

Harvest Bicycle Century Tour

The 13th annual Harvest Bicycle Century Tour, sponsored by the Rolling Prairie and Mill Creek Indiana Community Lions clubs, will be Sunday to benefit Diabetes Awareness. Registration is from 6-11 a.m. (CDT). The bike tour begins at Rolling Prairie Elementary School at 605 E. Michigan Street. There are routes of 15, 25, 40, 62 and 100 miles on well-maintained county roads. Rest stops with refreshments and rest rooms are provided. Registration fees are $25 per rider through Aug. 11, and $35 the day of the ride. Families of three or more can register for $40 through Aug. 11, or $50 on the day of the ride. Paladin hosts co-ed softball tournament

Paladin is looking for teams to play their first inaugural Co-ed Softball Tournament on August 25 at Patriot Park Sports Complex in Michigan City. Teams must consist of at least five men and five women 18 or older. Registration fee is $250 per team. The tournament will raise funds to help support persons with disabilities. Games will be played from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the park at 2224 N. CR 950W.
