West Virginia telescope to host spacecraft landing party

GREEN BANK, W.Va. (AP) — The National Radio Astronomy Observatory’s Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia is holding a public event to track a NASA lander on Mars.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports a landing party for the InSight spacecraft is set for Monday afternoon in Green Bank in Pocahontas County. The spacecraft will enter the Martian atmosphere at supersonic speed, then attempt to make a soft landing after a six-month journey.

Visitors can watch live footage from NASA TV and the Green Bank Telescope’s control room.

There also will be a presentation about the Mars mission as well as hands-on activities.
