Students, VFW Auxiliary send items to serviceman, unit stationed abroad
BULLHEAD CITY — Students at an area school did their part to send Christmas cheer to American troops stationed overseas.
Under the direction of VFW 10005 Auxiliary of Bullhead City, classes at Desert Star Academy in Fort Mohave had a contest to see which classroom could collect the most items to send a local serviceman, Brett Stokesberry, and his military unit.
“The school did a wonderful job collecting numerous items such as hard candy, gum, snacks, tea, hot chocolate and drink mixes, razors and socks as well as many other types of items,” said Vickey Robertson, of the VFW 10005 Auxiliary. “Then, to add icing on top of the donations, some of the classes made ‘thank you’ cards and Christmas cards.”
Robertson said the classroom that collected the most items will be feted to an ice cree party when they return to school after the holiday break.
She said the VFW Auxiliary needed 13 large boxes and two extra-large boxes to send all of the items abroad.
“VFW Auxiliary 10005 would like to thank everyone who made this successful,” she said.
