Marking Veterans Day across the ArkLaTex

We’ve listed many of them below.

COMPLIMENTARY MEALS

Boomtown Casino and Hotel Bossier City is honoring United States Veterans and service personnel with a complimentary lunch on Friday, Nov. 10. at Cattleman’s Buffet between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. during the Federal observance of Veterans Day.

In an effort to recognize our local service men and women, Horseshoe Bossier City is reaching out to say “Thank You”. Horseshoe Bossier City invites all Veterans and active-duty personnel with a valid Military I.D. to enjoy a complimentary meal at The Spread Buffet on Saturday, November 11th between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

DiamondJacks Casino & Hotel will host a FREE Veterans Day lunch at our Legends Buffet on Saturday, November 11 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for active and retired military. The event is free and open to the public. Must present military ID. On this commemorative day and always, DiamondJacks is proud to support our military veterans and the men and women of our United States Armed Forces.

SPECIAL CEREMONIES & PARADES

You are cordially invited to attend the Ruston’s Veterans Day “Honoring Our Heroes” Celebration. The City of Ruston and the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce want to express our appreciation to our local veterans. Please join us for the special event on Friday, November 10, 2017. The program will kick-off with a parade at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin in the parking lot of the old Police Jury location (Alabama Avenue), turn south on Trenton Street, and east on Park Avenue. The remainder of the ceremony will be held at Railroad Park beginning with a flyover at 11 a.m.

LSUS prides itself on being a military friendly campus. In keeping with our commitment to providing the best possible experience for former and active duty military, we are proud to announce that this year’s Veterans Day event will be hosted by the LSUS Student Veterans Organization. The event will be held at the University Center Mall Flagpole Friday, November 10 and will begin at 11:00 AM. Lieutenant Bill Davis, the current Public Information Officer for the Bossier Parish Police Department, will serve as the guest speaker.

The Bossier Council on Aging presents a “Celebration of Veteran’s”, Friday, November 10, 2017 at 706 Bearkat Drive, across from Bossier High School, from 10:15 am to 11:30 am. The Bossier High School ROTC Honor Guard will begin the festivities with the posting of colors, and a brief commentary from Lt. Colonel John Johnson. Everyone will recite the Pledge of Allegiance, while the oldest serviceman in attendance will offer the opening prayer.

Bossier Parish Community College will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11:11am on Friday, November 10 in the Quad outside Building A on the BPCC campus in Bossier City. This year, BPCC will pay special tribute to all the College’s faculty and staff who have served in the military. BPCC serves the most military students in Louisiana out of all the state’s community colleges. The College has been recognized nationally for six consecutive years as a top military-friendly school.

To celebrate Veterans Day, Domtar in Ashdown is inviting folks in the community to join their annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony. It’s Friday at noon at the Domtar Ashdown Pulp and Paper Mill.

Volunteers and Families of love ones in-terred at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery are invited to help place flags in observance of Veterans Day and Wreaths for Christmas. The dates for placement and pick-up are: Flag Schedule for Veterans Day, Placement: 11/10/2017 @ 1:00 p.m., Pick-Up: 11/13/2017 @ 1:00 p.m. / Wreath Schedule for Christmas, Placement: 12/8/2017 @ 1:00 p.m., Pick-Up: 1/2/2018 @ 1:00 p.m. Please brings tools that will assist with making a small opening in the ground to place the flags and wreaths. Sometimes the soil can be tough depending on the weather conditions.

On Friday, Nov. 10, 4:15-5:15 p.m., the Women Veterans of the ArkLaTex (WVOTA) will have its first sunset veterans ceremony at the Bossier Civic Center Veterans Memorial at 620 Benton Road in Bossier City. The guest speaker will be Chief Master Sergeant Shelley Cohen, Command Chief of the 307th Bomb Wing Barksdale AFB. Chief Cohen is also a Purple Heart recipient. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. Colors will be presented by the Airline High School JROTC program. Several other service organizations will also be participating. Seating is limited and lawn chairs are permitted at the event. This event is sponsored by WVOTA and the City of Bossier City.

The Louisiana Veterans Day Honor Parade kicks off on Sunday, November 12 at 2 p.m. For the sixth year, the parade will be held at the State Fair of Louisiana. The first 5,000 people who enter the fair will receive an American flag. After the parade, a special ceremony will be held at the Boys and Girls Club beginning at 3:30 p.m. to honor those veterans. The State Fair of Louisiana will also have Military Appreciation Day, Sunday, November 12 from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. All military personnel and their families will receive free parking and admission.
