Nevada man accused of molesting child gets life with parole
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A man accused of molesting a child under the age of 14 over several years has been sentenced to life in prison with a chance for parole.
The Nevada Appeal reported Thursday that 48-year-old Craig Martin pleaded guilty to two counts of lewdness with a child under 14. His sentences will run consecutively, which means Martin won’t be eligible for parole for at least 20 years.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office started investigating Martin in May 2015 for allegations that he had been molesting a child in Silver Springs. He was later arrested in Arizona and extradited to Nevada for prosecution.
District Attorney Stephen Rye said the sentence “sends a strong message that child sexual abuse will not be tolerated in Lyon County.”
