Hudson Valley post office named for late Congressman Hinchey
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (AP) — President Donald Trump has signed a bill naming a Hudson Valley post office for the late U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey.
The veteran Democratic lawmaker died last November after a long illness. He was 79. A post office in the Ulster County village of Saugerties (SAW’-ger-teez) will be named after him.
A bill to rename the post office was co-sponsored by Democratic U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Republican U.S. Rep. John Faso of Columbia County. Democratic Rep. Louise Slaughter of Rochester, who died this past March, was also a co-sponsor.
Hinchey was a high-profile environmental advocate in the state Assembly and later for two decades in Congress.
