WESTPORT — Award-winning actress, artist, author and philanthropist Jane Seymour will be the keynote speaker at Norma Pfriem Breast Center’s 2018 Rose of Hope Luncheon, which will take place from noon to 2 p.m. June 6 at the Fairfield County Hunt Club in Westport.

“She’s very, very interested in women’s causes, women’s health and women’s well-being,” said Donna Twist, executive director of the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, and vice president of development for the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation.

Twist said Seymour has some personal reasons for wanting to speak, which she couldn’t get into, but added that the actress is “very excited” about the event.

Seymour joins a long list of notables who have spoken at the luncheon, which raises money to help the breast center — based at Bridgeport Hospital — provide care, education and support services to uninsured and underinsured women. Previous speakers have included actress Katie Holmes, musician Melissa Etheridge, actress and newly minted New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, and others.

The breast center provides nearly 1,400 uninsured and underinsured women with financial assistance for patient care and educates over 5,000 women and girls about breast cancer risk each year. One of only 300 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, the center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital, Trumbull and Fairfield locations.

Seymour’s professional acting career dates back to the late 1960s. She gained international fame playing the role of Solitaire in the 1973 James Bond film “Live and Let Die.” In addition to many other film and television roles, Seymour starred as Dr. Michaela “Mike” Quinn in the 1990s TV series “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” for which she won a Golden Globe award as best actress.

More recently, she had a small part in the 2005 smash comedy “Wedding Crashers” and currently stars on POP TV’s “Let’s Get Physical.”

Seymour has also authored several inspirational and children’s books, including the recently released “The Road Ahead,” and created the “Open Heart” jewelry collection for Kay Jewelers.

Brendan Fletcher of TV’s “The Voice” is the special musical guest. For ticket information, visit tinyurl.com/rohluncheon2018 or call 203-255-5546.
