OVEC to host workshop on ‘Living Off the Grid’ Tuesday

May 6, 2019

HUNTINGTON - Have you ever thought of living off the grid and not having any bills? Well, Alex Cole has not only thought about it but the young Mason County resident is doing just that.

Cole, who is a community organizer for the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, will be giving a workshop at OVEC’s offices, at 725 14th St. W., at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 - called Living Off The Grid. The workshop is sponsored by ROAR (Reimagine Our Appalachian Region).

At this free workshop, come out and hear how this Ohio University graduate has went back to the land and his family’s farm in Mason County to build his own cabin, grow his own food, install solar panels to create his own energy and use permaculture as a guidepost for living his life.

Cole, who has a degree in Environmental Geography and History from Ohio University, will be talking about how he lives off-grid on a farm in Mason County.

Cole found himself broke and in debt after school, and instead of leaving the area to pursue a career, he decided to return to his family farm and build a life around the principles of permaculture design. In his presentation, Cole, who is a community organizer for OVEC, will discuss his experience building his own cabin, growing his own food, installing solar panels to create his own energy and using permaculture as a guidepost for living his life.
