Charles tribute, Winston concert coming to Zumbrota
ZUMBROTA — Modern legends of music will be on the stage of the State Theatre in Zumbrota on April 1 and April 3.
“Hallelujah, We Love Him So — a Night of Ray Charles,” a tribute concert by Mick Sterling and friends, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 1, followed by a concert by New Age pianist George Winston at 7 p.m. April 3.
— The Ray Charles tribute will feature Sterling and Twin Cities vocalist Wain McFarlane, backed by a 12-piece orchestra. The show will include Charles’ greatest hits, including “I Got a Woman,” “What I Say,” “Nighttime is the Right Time” and others.
Tickets cost $28 in advance, $32 the day of the show.
— Winston will play songs from his new album “Spring Carousel — A Cancer Research Benefit.” It features 15 solo piano compositions written by Winston while recovering from a bone marrow transplant at the City of Hope in California. Proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit City of Hope.
In addition, Winston will play favorite selections from his seasonal albums, as well as tunes from his two albums of Vince Guaraldi songs.
Tickets cost $38 in advance, $42 the day of the show.
