Firefighters battle ‘out of control’ fire near Ririe

August 19, 2017 GMT

At approximately 2:20pm this afternoon Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies, Jefferson Central Fire, Idaho Falls Fire, and Ucon Fire Department responded to the West Birch Creek Rd off Hwy 26 near Ririe to a report of an out of control fire. The fire was believed to be caused by a resident burning garbage in the area that quickly spread.

Fire personnel were able to contain the fire to less than 20 acres, burning weeds and sage brush along with a demolished potato cellar. Fire units are currently working to put the remainder of the fire out.

At this time charges against the resident are pending and the fire is under investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies.

Again, the Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone of the current ban on open burning of any kind on all private property outside unincorporated areas of Bonneville County. Violation of the current burn ban resolution in place could result in misdemeanor charges.

Conditions in the area are very dry with significant winds and even small sparks can rapidly cause a fire and spread quickly. We urge everyone to take precautions with dragging trailer chains, lit cigarette butts, campfires, and propane bar-b-ques to prevent unnecessary fires and property damage.
