Firefighters rescue woman from Akron apartment fire

AKRON, Ohio — Firefighters were able to rescue a woman Tuesday from a fire in a third-floor apartment in Merriman Valley.

Another woman and a 2-year-old child also escaped the fire uninjured, fire department Lt. Sierje Lash says in a news release.

Firefighters were called to Timber Top Apartments and Townhomes, located just off of Portage Trail Extension West, at 2:56 p.m. The woman who called said she was trapped in the apartment.

When they arrived, a fire was visible in the living room of the apartment and a woman could be seen at a bedroom window.

Firefighters were able to use a ladder to rescue the woman from the window, Lash says.

The Red Cross is assisting the two women and child, who have been displaced by the fire.

Lash says the cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
