Late-night TV hosts savage Trump for tape

The hot-mic video of Donald Trump and Billy Bush that surfaced Friday afternoon paid big dividends Monday night for late-night TV hosts.

The videotape, made while Trump was taping an “Access Hollywood” segment, was published by the Washington Post on Friday afternoon. That was too late for most of th late-night shows.

But they caught up quickly on Monday night’s shows.

As “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah put it, “When the history of American politics is written, it will be divided into two distinct eras: before p—y and after p—y. Because since Friday, nothing has been the same, and no one saw this coming … now we’re in a completely different world.”

There was a lot to unpack and the hosts obviously had a field day. Here are eight elements of the video — from Bush to locker room talk — tackled by “The Daily Show”; “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”; “Late Night With Seth Meyers”; “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”; “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” and “Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” which filmed a brief, online-only segment because the show had the day off. (Conan O’Brien and James Corden were also off Monday.)

Meyers went after Bush as well as Trump: “There is currently a higher standard for host of the third hour of the ‘Today’ show than there is for Republican nominee for president.”

Fallon made fun of Trump’s excuse, as well, that the whole exchange was “locker room talk.” He said: “People didn’t know what was crazier, his excuse or the idea that Trump’s ever been to a gym.”
