LSU Practice Report: RB Derrius Guice, three starting O-linemen absent
Running back Derrius Guice and three starting offensive linemen missed Tuesday’s first practice of LSU’s off week.
Guice, a junior, is believed to be nursing a knee injury that’s lingered throughout the season. He ran for 276 yards against Ole Miss last Saturday but exited in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be an issue with his hand. Trainers examined the hand, and he looked to be cleared to return, but the Tigers were leading by three touchdowns.
Tackles KJ Malone and Toby Weathersby and center Will Clapp missed Tuesday’s practice. Malone did not play against Ole Miss as he recovers from a left knee injury against Auburn. Weathersby has missed practice time and game time with undisclosed issues. He played the full game in the 40-24 win over the Rebels.
The absence of the four starters is not necessarily significant. LSU does not play a game until meeting Alabama on Nov. 4, and Tuesday’s practice was a pad-less walk-through.
LSU practiced Wednesday before holding Thursday’s annual off-week event, Tiger Bowl, where freshmen and walk-ons scrimmage one another.
Nose tackle Ed Alexander practiced Tuesday. He missed the trip to Ole Miss with an undisclosed issue that is not believed to be an injury. His status remains in question.OLB Michael Divinity missed practice. Divinity, a rotational player like Alexander, did not travel to Oxford for undisclosed reasons. WR Russell Gage practiced. Gage suffered a knee injury late in the win in Oxford, according to the LSU radio broadcast. LB Donnie Alexander practiced. He did not play in the game against Ole Miss, though he did dress out.
