COLLEGE SOCCER: Mustangs complete Colorado sweep

AURORA, Colo. | The trip to Mile High Country proved successful for Morningside College’s men’s soccer team.

Jacob Harder and Joao Soares each scored two goals Sunday while leading the Mustangs to a 5-2 win over Johnson & Wales. The win completed a two-game sweep in Colorado for Coach Tom Maxon’s squad, which raised their season mark to 12-4-1.

Harder scored one goal in each half. Harder, who had a goal in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Rochester (Mich.), has scored four goals in the last five games for Morningside, four which have resulted in victories.

Soares, who scored both of his goals in the second half, is Morningside’s scoring leader with 24 points (10 goals, 4 assists). Paul Quildies had a goal and an assist.

Winning goalkeeper Tim Erdman had nine saves.

WAYNE STATE 3, ST. CLOUD STATE 1 (W): Natalie Rech moved into a first-place tie for the team scoring lead with a goal during Sunday afternoon’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Rech scored the last of Wayne State’s three first-half goals. She and Carys Hund each have four goals and an assist on the season.

Wayne State (8-5-3, 5-5-3 NSIC) opened the scoring quickly with an own goal at the 1:45 mark. Kelsey Engstrom added a goal. Hannah Knight had a team-high three shots on goal while winning goalkeeper Kylie Comba had six saves.

ORAL ROBERTS 3, SOUTH DAKOTA 1 (W): Sierra Beall scored two goals, six minutes apart late in the second half as Oral Roberts rallied for Sunday afternoon’s Summit League victory.

Redshirt freshman midfielder Kellee Willer scored her first career collegiate goal five minutes into the game. Parker Rytz, who allowed three second-half goals, finished with five saves for South Dakota (3-13-1, 2-4 Summit).

AUGUSTANA 1, MINNESOTA-DULUTH 1 (W): Augustana’s women’s soccer team posted their second consecutive draw during Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday afternoon at Duluth.

Mackenzie Main scored a second-half goal for Augustana (9-4-3, 8-2-3 NSIC). Former Bishop Heelan standout Samantha Tymkowicz took one shot on goal for the Vikings.

MIDLAND 4, DORDT 1 (W): Allison Buehring scored two goals, one in each half, during Midland’s Great Plains Athletic Conference win Saturday at Fremont, Nebraska.

Mikaela Patterson scored a second-half goal for Dordt (6-9-1, 2-6 GPAC). Goalkeeper Deianira Felts had 13 saves.

MIDLAND 3, DORDT 0 (M): James Kilburn and Cesar Cuellar scored goals five minutes apart Saturday as Midland snapped a scoreless tie during Great Plains Athletic Conference play at Fremont, Nebraska.

Logan Ganz collected six saves for Dordt (6-10, 2-5 GPAC).
