Joye for Sheriff to host fundraising dinner Friday
LAKE CITY, S.C. – Thomas Joye Jr., the first declared Republican candidate in next year’s election for Florence County Sheriff, announced his campaign will host a fundraising dinner at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lake City Country Club.
The Lake City Country Club is located at 140 S. Country Club Road in Lake City. Contributions are welcomed, and state law allows individuals and companies to donate up to $1,000 for a candidate per election cycle, according to a news release from the campaign. Checks can be made payable to T.J. Joye for Sheriff.
“We’ve been very busy since we announced we’re running for sheriff,” Joye said. “We’re hopeful this fundraising dinner will help keep our momentum moving forward to collect enough resources for what’s sure to be a tough campaign.”
Joye also was quick to share that his campaign will continue meeting with voters and will hold open events for the public to participate, share ideas and ask questions.
“One of the reasons I’m running for sheriff is to improve accessibility and transparency in the department,” Joye said. “I promise there will be many activities and many opportunities for people to hear from me and vice versa. Now more than ever before, Florence County needs a sheriff who believes in community policing, and I’m here to tell you there’s no stronger advocate for our community than me.”
Since Joye announced his candidacy, Sheriff Kenney Boone has been indicted and subsequently suspended from office for alleged misconduct, and four other candidates, three Democrats and one Republican, have announced their plans to campaign for sheriff in 2020.
