PRC’s Espinoza says she won’t run for Congress
Public Regulation Commissioner Valerie Espinoza, D-Santa Fe, announced Wednesday that she will not run for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján.
Espinoza — who had said she was thinking of running — said at Wednesday’s PRC meeting that she intends to “focus on serving the public” instead of campaigning for New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District seat.
She said she had an opportunity to move to Washington, D.C., about 20 years ago.
“But I chose New Mexico,” she said. “And today, again, I’m choosing to stay in Northern New Mexico.”
Espinoza is serving her second term on the commission and cannot legally run for a third consecutive term.
Luján is giving up his seat to run for U.S. Senate.
