Jazz Rookie Faces Rape Charges
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) _ Utah Jazz rookie DeShawn Stevenson is scheduled to be arraigned on statutory rape charges Friday after allegedly admitting he had sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Stevenson, a 6-foot-5 backup guard who went into the NBA from high school, faces up to three years in state prison if convicted of the felony.
The girl told police that the 20-year-old Stevenson, his best friend and former high school teammate DeShawn Anderson, 19, and Spring Hill College’s Richard Millsap, 21, took her and a 15-year-old friend to a motel. There, she said, Stevenson and Anderson gave the two girls alcohol and had sex with them.
The 14-year-old told her mother, and Stevenson admitted to the mother in a tape-recorded telephone call that he had sex with her daughter, according to court records.
Stevenson and Anderson will be arraigned in Fresno County Superior Court.
