Pakistan requests ICC to approve Ali as Junaid’s replacement
ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Pakistan Cricket Board has requested ICC approval for left-arm fast bowler Rahat Ali to replace the injured Junaid Khan in the World Cup squad.
Ali has played just one limited-overs international, three years ago, but has been a regular test bowler, taking 31 wickets in 11 tests.
Junaid, also a left-arm fast bowler, has been ruled out of the World Cup with a hamstring injury. Bilawal Bhatti replaced him in the just-completed two one-dayers against New Zealand, but was unimpressive in both matches, including humbling figures of 0-93 in 119-run defeat in the second match.
Ali had not been part of Pakistan’s 30-member preliminary World Cup squad.
