Public warned of credit card scam

December 30, 2017

MORRISON – Whiteside County Sheriff’s deputies advise residents to watch for a new telephone scam seeking to get credit card numbers.

Lt. John Booker said the scammers are calling around attempting to get the last four numbers of the resident’s credit card number. Scammers will say they are attempting to lower the resident’s credit card interest rate, and will read the first 12 numbers on the credit card. The resident then will be asked several times for the last four numbers on their card.

Residents are advised to never give out any personal information, and to call their local authorities if they think they received a scam phone call.
