Aiken Regional Medical Centers holds annual Great Pumpkin Contest
The lobby of Aiken Regional Medical Centers was extra spooky on Halloween as it was filled with displays for the hospital’s Great Pumpkin Contest.
Each department was given one pumpkin by Human Resources for the contest, though they were allowed to add additional pumpkins.
The contest was entirely anonymous, with only the names of each display being listed.
The departments got creative with their entries. One pumpkin was turned into a bubbling cauldron, while another was decorated like a gumball machine.
The contest was split into two categories: carved and decorative.
For the carved contest, Freaky Furnace came in first place, The Witches’ Chant came in second and It’s Your Birthday won third.
For decorated pumpkins, Barnyard Friends won first place, followed by Pumpkin Spiced Latte in second and The Wicked Witch is Dead in third.
Harry Potter and Wicked Box of Tricks were given honorable mentions.
“Each of the first-place winners gets a pizza party, either for their department or for their facility, because this is also for other facilities that are on our campus,” said ARMC Senior HR Generalist Billie Manz, who helped organize the contest.
“When they’re ready for their pizza party, it comes from our Cafe 302 here in the hospital,” Manz said.
Judges this year included Diane Daniell with the Aiken Standard, Diane Phillips with the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce and Sandra Hunt with CME and Leadership Aiken County.
