Monroe to host basketball contest
On Friday, Feb. 8, in conjunction with the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association, the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a local Basketball Hot Shot Contest at the gym of Fawn Hollow School, 345 Fan Hill Road, Monroe.
Each player will have one minute to shoot from “hotspots” placed on one half of the court. Starting at the center of half court, the player dribbles into shooting range. The contest challenges a player’s speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability.
Three one-minute rounds constitute the duration of play for each player. The top scorer in each division will move on to the next level of the contest. Participants with the highest points will win their age division and get a chance to compete in the state level contest on April 6 in Old Saybrook. This is a free activity, but participants should register in advance at www.MonroeRec.org. This is for boys and girls ages 9 to 15 as of Dec. 31, 2018.
Ages 9 to 10 will meet from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Ages 10 to 12 meet from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Ages 13 to 15 meet from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m.
