Three hit in drive-by shooting
Three people were taken to a local hospital Tuesday night after they were shot during a drive-by shooting on Fort Wayne’s south side, police said.
Sgt. Shane Hopkins of the Fort Wayne Police Department said the victims were standing on the porch of a home in the 1900 block of East Pontiac Street when bullets were flying.
Hopkins said officers received reports of shots fired in the area and found the house on Pontiac where shots were fired into.
Two juveniles and one adult were hit. Two of the victims were in serious condition and one was in good condition, Hopkins said at the scene.
“They’re not in critical,” he said. “We’re conducting an investigation, moving forward from this point.”
The shooting, which police said was a drive-by, occurred around 8:15 p.m.
Police have a vague description of the shooter. The investigation is ongoing, Hopkins said.
“Nothing is confirmed at this point,” he said.
A family speaking Spanish arrived at the scene after the shooting.
A woman said her aunt who is around 60 years old has lived in the house since the late 1980s along with another man who is in his late 50s.
The woman believed a granddaughter was with her aunt when the shooting occurred.
She and other family members were on their way to the hospital while police scoured the scene for evidence.
