Saints lose guard Larry Warford, tight end Michael Hoomanawanui to concussions

December 17, 2017

The New Orleans Saints have lost right guard Larry Warford and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui for the rest of the Jets game with concussions, according to a press box announcement.

Warford was injured in the second quarter, trying to chase down Jets defensive tackle Leonard Williams after an interception.

After going down and not moving initially — prompting teammates to kneel — Warford got up and walked from the field, and then was carted off the sideline.

Josh LeRibeus replaced Warford at right guard.

Hoomanawanui, who was injured in the first quarter, has just six catches for 52 yards on the season, but his blocking has been an important part of the New Orleans run game all year long, and he plays roughly 50 percent of the snaps.

With Hoomanawanui out, second-year player Garrett Griffin will likely see an increased workload, along with offensive lineman Josh LeRibeus, who plays tight end in the Saints’ jumbo package.
