Lobo Jackson named to Mountain West All-Tournament team

(Adolphe Pierre-Louis/Journal)In 20 years of Mountain West basketball, there had never been a player make the league’s all-tournament team from a team that did not at least play in the semifinals.

Until Saturday.

After his breakout performance this week in Las Vegas, Nev., UNM Lobo sophomore forward/guard Vance Jackson on Saturday was selected as one of the five players named to the 2019 Mountain West Championship All-Tournament Team, as voted on by league media covering the tournament.


In two games -- a first round win over Wyoming and a quarterfinal loss to eventual champion Utah State -- Jackson averaged 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals.

No. 2 Utah State on Saturday evening defeated No. 4 San Diego State in the tournament title game, 64-57, in the Thomas &MacK Center, earning the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
