Las Vegas airport briefly evacuated after baggage claim fire

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say a small fire beneath baggage claim inside a terminal at McCarran International Airport caused a temporary evacuation.

Clark County Fire Department officials say the incident occurred around noon Saturday when smoke was reported near a baggage carousel in Terminal 1.

Airport officials told Las Vegas TV station KSNV that the small fire was quickly extinguished after the emergency stop was used on the baggage claim system.

They say some debris has fallen into the baggage claim conveyor system and that caused friction and started the fire.

Authorities say no injuries were reported and there was no damage to passenger property or the baggage claim system.
