IRONTON, Ohio — An Ironton man was arrested Thursday after an autopsy revealed a 2-year-old’s 2017 death was the result of a drug overdose.

On Feb. 7, 2019 at 3 p.m., Detectives Joe Ross and Jamie Pruitt arrested David E. Large, 36, of Ironton, and charged him with felony child endangerment.

According to a press release, the Ironton Police Department was dispatched Jan. 27, 2017 to an apartment in the 400 block of North Second Street in Ironton about a child in cardiac arrest.

Officers Katelyn Lawson and Chad Gue responded and immediately began emergency life saving measures before Lawrence County EMS arrived and transported the child to a medical center in Ashland.

The 2-year-old was pronounced deceased at the hospital and was sent for an autopsy in Frankfort, Kentucky. The toxicology report from the autopsy revealed the presence of illegal drugs in the child’s system.

Ross said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be added against Large or other suspects.

Large will be arraigned in Lawrence County Municipal Court at 1 p.m. Monday.
