CHICOPEE -- Fitchburg State held the lead in both the first and second half of Wednesday’s non-conference women’s soccer match, but host Elms was able to come through in the clutch for a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Falcons (1-2-1) grabbed the lead at the 22:39 mark as freshman Elicia Marshall redirected a shot off the foot of sophomore Mikaela Mitchell inside the far post for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Elms (3-2-1) knotted the score at 1-1 in the 37th minute when senior Danielle Asklar fired a shot off the near post and into the net following a free kick for her first tally of the year.

In the second half, the Falcons regained the lead at the 59:01 mark as Mitchell gathered a feed from senior Hannah Keohan, of Lunenburg, and blasted a shot into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the 2018 campaign to make the score 2-1.

The Blazers again tied the contest, 2-2, in the 70th minute when freshman Sydney Goodwin connected on her first collegiate tally. Marshall nearly gave lead back to the Falcons late in regulation, but her attempt rang of the post to send the game into overtime.

Elms secured the victory just 1:50 into the extra frame as Goodwin received a pass from senior Gigi Thibault and deposited a shot into the upper-left corner of the net.
