Piff the Magic Dragon a cheap date at Foxwoods April 14

April 3, 2018 GMT

His name is John van der Put, but fans of “America’s Got Talent” just know him as Piff the Magic Dragon, who performs with his costumed Chihuahua Mr. Piffles.

The London-born 37-year-old mixes a cool attitude and a dopey dragon costume, which is a chuckleheaded counterpoint to David Blaine’s street guy or Cris Angel’s goth persona.

After all, it’s just illusion and head games, which require a little amusement to soften up folks. Piff will entertain at the handsome Fox Theater at Foxswoods Saturday, April 14.

Van der Put is a computer science grad who worked in IT until an attack of acute pancreatitis caused him to rethink his life. (That may be the first time someone’s been scared straight... into a dragon costume.) Luckily, he was also into magic and was studying drama at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

The studies led to this act, which has also been seen on TV’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” and as a support act for band Mumford & Sons on their 2012 tour.
