Fort Sam bar to be featured Sunday on ‘Bar Rescue’
A San Antonio neighborhood bar located near the gates of Fort Sam Houston is about to feel the critical heat on Sunday during a nationally televised episode of “Bar Rescue.”
Airing at 8 p.m. on the Paramount Network, host Jon Taffer is putting the Recovery Room, and owner Heather Bury Stich, in the spotlight for the one-hour show. Bar Rescue, which made its cable TV debut in 2011 and is in its sixth season, specializes in taking on struggling bar businesses and transforming the identity in a limited time frame — often with tough love.
In an extended video tease to Sunday’s episode, Taffer storms into the bar and verbally decries Stich for her hard-partying and free drink giveaways in the name of a “good time.” The episode is titled “Tanked and Toasty.”
“We went through an intense interview screening process, talked with casting agents and all that, but you never know you will be featured on the show until Jon walks through the door,” Stich said. “(Jon) is pretty hard on you. Some of it was deserved. Some of it, maybe not. But I learned a lot and think we came out of this with a better bar.”

Bar Rescue spent more than a week on location in June, extensively renovating the property at 1139 Harry Wurzbach Road and giving it a name change. The bar is now called The Base Line, but that’s about all Stich can say prior to the airing of the episode.
“Looking back on it, it was the longest, toughest, greatest 10 days of my life,” Stich said. “The hardest part for me was that I worked my entire life to buy that bar and make it mine, and it was in the hands of the show. But the end result has been fantastic.”
The Base Line is the second San Antonio bar property to be featured on Bar Rescue. In a March 10 episode, Taffer focused his attention on the Country Nights bar (12130 O’Connor Road), which was renamed Madame Dalia’s Country Bar.
