Dendinger, Sullivan qualifiers for National Indoor Track and Field

Michaela Dendinger and Robert Sullivan of Wayne State College were announced late Tuesday afternoon as national qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Pittsburg State in Kansas on Friday, March 9th and Saturday, March 10th. For the second straight year, Dendinger is a national qualifier in the women’s shot put and weight throw while Sullivan is a repeat qualifier in the men’s heptathlon.

Dendinger, a senior from Coleridge (Hartington Public HS), will compete in the weight throw on Friday, March 9th at 4:55 p.m. She posted a season-best mark of 65’ 6”, a new WSC school record, on Friday to win the NSIC weight throw in Mankato and has the second-best throw in NCAA Division II entering the national championships. Dendinger also qualified in the shot put on Saturday, March 10th at 5:05 p.m. and has the top mark in the country after recording a mark of 54’ 10 ½”, a new WSC school record, at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on February 2nd.

Sullivan a junior from Bennington (Omaha Burke HS), will compete in the two-day heptathlon starting Friday, March 9th at 10 a.m. and Saturday, March 10th at 12 p.m. He was a repeat champion in the NSIC heptathlon this season with a new school record point total of 5,226 points, which ranks 10th in NCAA Division II entering the national meet.
