New Mexico State Police: 2 arrested after pursuit, gunfire
ALMOGORDO, N.M. (AP) — Authorities says two Alamogordo brothers were stopped and arrested after a SUV fled from a Border Patrol checkpoint in southern New Mexico and multiple shots were fired at several agencies’ pursuing officers, including one who fired back with his rifle.
No injuries were reported from the incident late Thursday night which began at the checkpoint on U.S. 70 and continued into the Alamogordo city limits and ended on the city’s highway bypass.
The New Mexico State Police said 35-year-old LaBruce Powell was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes and that 31-year-old Travis Powell was arrested on suspicion of aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer and reckless driving.
Online court records don’t list defense attorneys for the brothers who could comment on the allegations.
