Hernberg Nets HE Award
LOWELL -- UMass Lowell junior Christoffer Hernberg has been named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month.
The native of Espoo, Finland went 5-0-0 in Hockey East games during November. He stopped 159 of 171 shots during the month. He posted a 1.84 goals against average, tops for Hockey East goalies in November, and posted a .930 save percentage.
He allowed two goals or fewer in five of his six starts during the month. He kicked out 33 saves on two occasions, including in his second career shutout against UConn.
UMass Lowell has two key Hockey East games this weekend against rival Boston University. UML will host BU on Friday and play Saturday at BU.
BOSTON -- The Simmons College women’s swimming & diving team won its 14th straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship and the Norwich University men won the inaugural GNAC crown at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium on the campus of host Simmons on Monday.
Freshman Anna Leedham (Lowell) scored 34 points on each day for Simmons, including a school and conference-record breaking swim in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 2:14.82 erased the former school mark, which had stood since 1998. Leedham also placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.
