Man charged with shooting Virginia deputy arrested in Cary
A man accused of shooting a Virginia deputy was arrested Wednesday in Cary.
Authorities said police in Richmond, Va. Responded to a shooting in the 2700 block of Lambert’s Avenue at about 11 p.m. Tuesday and found a Henrico County deputy with multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities identified Theron Donte Shackleford, 32, of Richmond, as a suspect and charged him with attempted murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony in connection with the incident.
Authorities tracked Shackleford to an apartment in Cary, where he was arrested just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
“We applaud the efforts of law enforcement to quickly bring to justice this violent individual who committed such a heinous act,” said Bobby Mathieson, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Authorities said the deputy injured in the shooting underwent surgery but remains in critical condition.
