Man gets life sentence for drug-related triple slaying
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for a drug-related triple slaying.
News outlets report that Palm Beach County jurors decided 26-year-old Christopher Vasata’s sentence Thursday. He was convicted last week of three counts of first-degree murder. The death penalty would have required a unanimous decision.
Authorities say Vasata and 26-year-old Marcus Steward went to a Jupiter home in February 2017 after the home’s owner, 29-year-old Charles Vorpagel, complained that a rival drug dealer was robbing his friends. The attack left 26-year-old Sean Henry, 24-year-old Brandi El-Salhy and 20-year-old Kelli Doherty dead, while Vorpagel survived.
Vasata was wounded during the shooting, but officials weren’t sure who shot him.
Steward has also been charged in the shooting, but no trial date has been set.
