Heavy rains prompt flood warnings in parts of Illinois

May 1, 2019

LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) — Rivers are swelling in Illinois as heavy rains move across the state, prompting flood warnings and flash flood watches.

The National Weather Service on Wednesday morning had flood warnings in effect for parts of western and central Illinois and flash flood watches for much of central Illinois. Weather service forecasters say as much as 3 inches of rain fell in the last 48 hours in some areas.

Major and moderate flooding was reported along some rivers in Illinois, including the Mississippi, DuPage, Des Plaines, Green and Fox rivers.

Macon County Farm Bureau President Michael Stacey tells the (Decatur) Herald and Review that some farmers “are getting anxious and concerned.”

Weather service forecasters say another round of showers are expected Thursday before conditions dry out Friday and over the weekend.
