HHS boys track are Gamers of the Week
Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Putnam County’s own Hurricane High School boys track team.
The Redskins boys track team captured their first ever AAA state track championship last weekend at Laidley Field in Charleston. The Redskins finished with 53 total points and just 3 points above Spring Mill, and 5 points ahead of Parkersburg South. The Redskins won gold in three events. Led by Jaylen Snyder, who placed first in high jump and long jump, and fellow teammate Dakota Williams, who won gold in the 200 meters and second in the 100 meters. The Redskins also finished third in the 4x100 relay, which helped to springboard Hurricane to the top of the leaderboard.
This was one of the closest
contests in recent AAA state championships. Head coach Eric Cooper and the boys took care of business on day one of the meet that helped to lead to a victorious Saturday evening. It may come to some as a surprise to many in the state as the Redskins didn’t show their dominance until the final meet. Flying under the radar, they finished just fourth in the MSAC conference championship and didn’t win their regional meet. The Redskins and coach Cooper knew if they could put it all together, they could do something special. They did that by shocking the competition and claiming the No. 1 spot.
Congratulations to our local standout team and please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald.
