3 workers hurt, 1 critical, in mill building floor collapse
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A fire official says a floor partially collapsed in a mill building that was being renovated in Pawtucket, injuring three workers.
Pawtucket Fire Department Acting Battalion Chief Michael Thurber says an approximately 10-foot-by-16-foot section of the second floor collapsed Monday into the basement. A city official reported earlier Monday that the collapse was limited to a stairwell, but Thurber said that was not the case.
He says that when the department arrived on scene, one woman was trapped under rubble and rescuers were able to get her out. Two male workers were also hurt. All were taken to a hospital.
Pawtucket Director of Communications Wilder Arboleda said earlier Monday that one worker was critically injured.
Officials did not immediately know the name of the construction company or the workers’ names.
