Two in hospital after crash on Highway 81
A woman and child were sent to separate hospitals for injuries after a crash on Friday, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
At about 12:25 p.m., Nebraska State Patrol received report of a crash at the intersection of U.S. 81 and NE-98, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.
A southbound straight truck driven by Steven Woods, 33, of Fremont, had slowed down to turn left from U.S. Highway 81 onto eastbound NE-98, Thomas said. A 2007 Nissan Murano that was behind the truck, driven by Jacquin Colabello, 22, of Lewellen, failed to slow down and struck the rear end of the truck.
Colabello was extracted from the vehicle and life-flighted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. A small child passenger in the Murano was transported to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Thomas said.
Colabello was not wearing a seatbelt, but the child was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Woods was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
