Montana Gov. Steve Bullock on Thursday nabbed the endorsement of Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller the first statewide elected official in the early presidential state to throw support behind a 2020 presidential contender.

Mr. Miller said in a campaign video he’s “proud” to support Mr. Bullock for president, though he also said he knows he shouldn’t tell Iowans who to caucus for.

“But I ask you to go out and hear Steve and meet him and see what you think. The stakes are so high this time around. It’s up to us to get it right,” he said.

Mr. Bullock is heading to Iowa this week to campaign.

The governor, who entered the crowded field this week, is pitching his experience as a Democratic governor in a state President Trump carried by about 20 points as a key selling point in the race.

His campaign also announced that he raised $1 million in the first 24 hours of his campaign for president, collecting contributions from all 50 states.
