Ice, snow possible in West Virginia

February 18, 2019

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Forecasters say a significant winter storm is heading toward West Virginia.

The National weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. The watch areas include the Eastern Panhandle, the Potomac Highlands, the Greenbrier Valley and mountain regions.

The weather service says up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of snow and some ice accumulations are possible. It says power outages and tree damage are likely due to ice, which would create treacherous travel conditions. Higher elevations could receive greater amounts.
